About

A crescent, and the colours it rises over.

Hilal is the new crescent moon that opens each Islamic month. Hue is colour. Hilal & Hue is a free library of wall art for anyone who loves this art, whether it belongs to their tradition or not.

How Hilal & Hue is made

How it’s made

Every piece is built as a vector, with AI-assisted tools, from the real geometry, plants, buildings and instruments it shows. Each one is recomposed for every frame shape rather than cropped, so a landscape print is a landscape picture.

Verse and word

Quranic prints use the Uthmani text of the King Fahd Glorious Quran Printing Complex, set unaltered in Amiri Quran, with the reference on every print. Word prints use carefully chosen Arabic typefaces and give the meaning in English.

Free, and staying free

Downloads are free for personal use, and the library keeps growing, with new collections landing regularly. And there is more on the way, kept quiet for now.

Why Hilal & Hue

Hilal & Hue is a free library of wall art rooted in Islamic art, architecture and the Arabic word, alongside modern pieces that simply look good in a room. It’s made by a small Palestinian-American studio, for families like ours and for anyone who wants their walls to feel like home.

We started because the art we wanted didn’t exist: the patterns, arches and words so many of us grew up around, made with care and ready to print. So we began making it.

Every piece is made with digital tools, AI included. Our part is the eye and the care: choosing what’s worth hanging, refining each piece, and only putting up what we’d hang at home.

It’s free, on purpose. Beautiful things shouldn’t sit behind a paywall. Pick one, print it big, and make your walls feel like yours.

The word 'a'ila, family, in classical Naskh, set in a deep green roundel on a green carpet of Turkmen guls with an ivory boteh border.Ar-Rum 30:21 in oxblood ink on parchment within a double gold frame, with a small gold shamsa above.A cream bunny and a honey-brown bear sit side by side, both fast asleep, in the hollow of a large golden crescent, with soft clouds below and stars all around.A Moroccan pewter teapot with a long curving spout and a domed lid, set on a round brass tray with gold-banded glasses of amber tea and fresh mint, against a teal wall with a band of zellige and, on the upright formats, an arched alcove above.A single ancient olive tree with a twisted, hollowed trunk stands on pale ground before a soft sun.A grandmother, a mother and a young girl standing together and facing out, in plum, emerald, cobalt, coral and saffron.
A few favourites from the library: ‘a’ila (family), Affection and Mercy, two friends asleep on the moon, mint tea, an old olive tree and three generations together.
