Sun Gate
What you seeA large striped sun rises behind a crenellated earthen gate with a horseshoe arch, between date palms hung with fruit, all framed in a tall arch. Woven bands run across the base.
What it meansEarthen kasbah gates of southern Morocco carry relief bands of triangles and lozenges, and the date palm is the oasis tree of North Africa and Arabia. Sadu is the warp-faced weaving of the Bedouin of Arabia, worked on a ground loom from sheep, goat and camel hair, and built from bands of triangles, lozenges, ladders and comb shapes.
Where it worksA warm, welcoming piece for an entrance hall or a living room.
