Tile Field
What you seeA framed panel of square tiles: each carries a central rosette, a pinwheel of saz leaves and tulips, and the corners join to form large red-ringed medallions; the frame runs along the tile joints and centre lines, set in a plain slip margin with a cobalt double rule.
What it meansIznik tiles were designed to be read across many squares at once, so that motifs cut at the edge of one tile are completed by its neighbours, as on the walls of the Rüstem Pasha Mosque.
Where it worksWorks well large, in a kitchen, dining room or anywhere a sense of a tiled wall is welcome.
