Turquoise Witness
What you seeLa ilaha illa Allah in turquoise bricks within a lapis tile panel, its joints drawn in a pale line, on a bone ground.
What it meansThere is no god but God, the first half of the declaration of faith. Written as in early Kufic, without dots or hamza. Square Kufic was laid in glazed and plain bricks on mosques and shrines in Iran and Central Asia, notably under the Timurids.
Where it worksA calm, cool piece for a bedroom or a prayer corner.
