What you seeA single cobalt eight-point star, so large it runs off the edge of the sheet, with a small saffron disc set against the open ground.

What it meansThe khatam, a star made from two squares, is one of the oldest motifs in Islamic geometry; here it is treated the way Swiss posters treat a single bold form.

Where it worksGives a plain wall or a long hallway one confident shape to read from across the room.
