Qanun
What you seeA qanun seen from directly above, with its slanted row of tuning pegs, small brass levers, carved rosettes and the bridge resting on panels of skin.
What it meansThe qanun is a trapezoidal zither played on the lap; its strings run in courses of three, and the small levers let the player shift notes by fractions of a tone.
Where it worksWorks well above a sideboard or in a room with deep blue accents.
