What you seeA full shop floor of rugs thrown down at every angle, crimson, black, ivory, indigo and rust, with stars, guls, boteh and latch hooks.

What it meansIn carpet bazaars rugs are kept in deep piles and turned back one by one for a visitor, so a stack is how most people first meet them. The soft bands of shade across each field echo abrash, the natural shift in colour between batches of wool dyed with madder or indigo.

Where it worksRich and busy for a living room or a large wall.
