The Basmalah
What you seeAl-Fatihah 1:1 in cream inside a gold-edged sura-header cartouche on a midnight band, with small gold sunburst medallions on the vertical axis and a thin double gold frame around the page.
What it means‘In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.’ The Basmalah opens every surah of the Quran but one, and Muslims say it before beginning everyday acts.
Where it worksSits well above a doorway or in an entrance hall, where it greets everyone who comes in.
