Yastiks
What you seeSmall rugs laid out in two loose columns on pale plaster, each with its own field of stars, Memling guls or sprigs and its own border.
What it meansSmall Anatolian rugs called yastiks were woven as cushion faces; their size made them a place for bold, compact designs. The hooked octagon is called a Memling gul, after the fifteenth-century Flemish painter Hans Memling, who painted rugs that carry it.
Where it worksBright and orderly for a kitchen, a playroom or a long hallway.
