Boteh
What you seeA large boteh on rose, its teardrop outline banded in gold, blue with cream beads, cream and red around a pale centre with a small gold flower, shown as a facing pair in wider shapes and one above another in the tall ones.
What it meansThe boteh, Persian for a shrub or cluster of leaves, is the teardrop with a bent tip woven into Persian termeh and Kashmir shawls. The Scottish town of Paisley made so many copies that the motif took its name in English.
Where it worksA soft, decorative piece for a bedroom, a dressing room or a sitting room.
