Calico Block
What you seeA half-drop repeat of botehs printed in black-plum outline and madder fill on a natural calico ground, the colours slightly off register.
What it meansBlock printing in India uses one carved wooden block per colour, so outline and fill can drift slightly, which is part of the character of the cloth.
Where it worksFeels at home in a kitchen, a cottage room or a bathroom.
