Carpet Anatomy
What you seeA Persian-style knotted carpet drawn upright with its parts named: a red field strewn with small flowers, a lobed indigo medallion with a pendant above and below, quarter-medallion cornerpieces, an indigo main border with a flowering vine between narrow guard stripes, and a fringe at each end.
What it meansMost classical Persian and Anatolian carpets share this anatomy. The field holds the main design, the border frames it like a picture, and the fringe is simply the ends of the warp threads on which the carpet was knotted.
Where it worksA clear, warm plate for a study, a hallway or anyone who loves rugs.
