What you seeA suzani hanging on cream cotton: rows of large red and pink rosettes, each ringed with green serrated leaves and centred on a small star, joined by curving stems with leaves and flowers, inside a border of small rosettes on a meandering vine.
What it meansSuzani, from the Persian word for needle, are the embroidered textiles of Uzbekistan and neighbouring lands. They were traditionally made by a bride's family as part of her dowry, the panels shared out among relatives and sewn together.
