Exploded Tier

No. 11 of 20 · free · 300 dpi

What you seeThree tiers of muqarnas cells drawn in elevation and lifted apart, in lapis, turquoise and stucco, with gold guide lines showing how each joint in one tier sits over the centre of a cell in the tier below.

What it meansEach tier of muqarnas rests on the tier below, offset by half a cell so that every joint lands over the middle of a cell; this offset gives the vault its honeycomb rhythm.

Where it worksA thoughtful piece for a study, a studio or a design-minded home.
