What you seeAn arched window in a plum room at night, its panes showing a deep blue sky with the new crescent and a few stars. Terracotta curtains are tied back on either side and a small teal vase of white jasmine stands on the sill.

What it meansFamilies climb to roofs and windows to look for the new crescent on the last evening of Sha'ban and of Ramadan. Jasmine, which opens at night, fills Levantine homes with scent in summer.

Where it worksIntimate and glowing; for a bedroom or a child's room, and a fine gift for the start of Ramadan.
