Tiled Dado
What you seeUnder a cedar beam with its joist ends showing, a pointed window with a fine lattice stands open between two carved cedar shutters in plain plaster, above a frieze of small carved arches, a tiled dado of hexagons and six-pointed stars in cobalt, green and ochre, and a terracotta floor.
What it meansIn Maghrebi and Andalusian rooms the wall is layered: glazed tile where hands and shoulders touch it, carved plaster above, bare plaster to the ceiling.
Where it worksAn interior within an interior, suited to a dining room or a long wall at eye level.
