What it meansTatreez is Palestinian cross-stitch embroidery, traditionally worked by women on the thobe, the long embroidered dress, with motifs and colours that vary from region to region. The eight-point star is among its most common motifs.
Where it worksThe motif is made by what the needle did not do, a simple reversal that gives the piece its presence. A near-solid field of red with a pale star that anchors a large wall.
