Cypress Rows
What you seeRows of slender stitched cypresses on linen, each row standing on a single ruled line of gold. The rows alternate between olive trees with sage stems and sage trees with olive stems, each set half a step from the last.
What it meansThe cypress is a familiar motif in tatreez, the Palestinian cross-stitch embroidery traditionally worked by women on dresses (thobes). It often runs in rows as a border along panels and hems.
Where it worksOne motif at one scale, given room: the linen between the trees is as much the pattern as the trees. Olive and sage on cream give it a fresh, green feel.
