Desert & Horizon

Dunes, mesas, salt and a low sun, reduced to bands and curves. Some are printed flat in a few colours, some carry the slow gradients of heat and dusk. Each is drawn wide enough to be hung in landscape.

Four rolling bands of dune, pale to dark, fill the lower half beneath a peach sky. A small clay sun sits just above the first ridge.DunesNo. 1
A large sun sits half below a flat horizon, its lower edge cut by a dark red plain. The sky fades from warm rose at the top to pale cream at the line.Low SunNo. 2
The frame is cut down the middle. On the left a clay sky meets a sand plain low down, with half a bone sun sitting on it; on the right a peach sky meets an ochre plain higher up, and the other half of the sun is dark red.Split HorizonNo. 3
Twelve horizontal bands of colour run from deep blue at the top through plum and red to pale gold at the horizon. On the dark plain below, four short bars of the same colours narrow towards the viewer.Dusk BandsNo. 4

A line of three dromedaries walks along the crest of a deep red dune, their dark silhouettes crossing a large pale sun that sits just on the ridge. A softer dune lies behind them, fine wind ripples run down the shadowed slope in front, and a thin crescent moon hangs high on the left.CaravanNo. 6
A pale full moon hangs in a sky that deepens from violet at the horizon to blue-black at the top. Two dune ridges in plum and near-black fill the foot of the frame.Moon over SandNo. 7

A pale salt pan covered in a net of raised white hexagonal plates recedes to a low violet range. A soft sun sits on the horizon in a sky that warms from lilac to peach, and its light lies on the salt in a thin streak.Salt FlatsNo. 10
A pale, dry riverbed snakes up from the foot of the frame and narrows to a thread at the horizon, a darker channel running inside it. Ochre ground steps back in three bands to a low range and a pale sun, and dark pebbles line the banks.WadiNo. 11
The frame is cut into five equal bands, violet at the top to pale gold at the foot. A large sun rises through the lower bands, its colour swapping in each one.Sunrise in Five BandsNo. 12
A clay mesa and a small butte stand on a flat sand plain under a pale sky. Beneath them, their upside-down reflection is broken into thin horizontal strips, each nudged a little sideways.MirageNo. 13
One long crest line runs from a peak left of centre down to the foot of the frame, with a dark red shadow slope on the left and an ochre sunlit face on the right. A wide peach sky with a small bone sun fills the top.Dune CrestNo. 14
Date palms stand black on both banks of a still pool under a night sky that shades from indigo to a last plum glow; a gold crescent and stars hang above and lie again in the water, and a small fire on the far bank puts one warm point into the blue.Oasis PoolNo. 15
A thick arch of clay-coloured rock stands on an ochre plain, its underside and right faces in dark red shadow and faint bedding lines running through the stone. Through the opening a pale sun sits on the horizon of a sand-coloured plain under a peach sky.Stone ArchNo. 16
Seen from directly above, a channel snakes down the sheet through five stepped terraces of rock, dark red at the rim to pale apricot at the bottom, with a ribbon of sand along its bed and a thin line of green scrub down its middle.River of GreenNo. 17
A circle on a bone ground holds a small desert view: a blue-to-apricot sky, a pale sun on the horizon and two dunes in red and brown. A thin ink ring marks the edge, and the horizon continues across the bone on either side as a fine grey line.Horizon in a CircleNo. 18
Looking straight up a narrow slot canyon: smooth sandstone walls curve in from both sides in bands of colour, deep red at the edges of the frame warming through clay and ochre to gold, until only a thin, winding line of pale sky is left between them.Slot CanyonNo. 19
A lone flat-topped sandstone butte, its talus sweeping up into a sheer cliff, stands on an ochre plain against a peach sky, with a pale sun setting on the horizon just beside it. Its shadow runs towards you in a long dark red wedge to the foot of the frame.Long ShadowNo. 20
