Three Lanterns
What you seeThree brass lanterns hanging on chains at three heights against deep plum. Each glows amber through pointed-arch windows and small star-shaped piercings, with a soft pool of light around it.
What it meansThe fanous, a metal lantern with coloured glass or pierced panels, has been hung in streets and homes during Ramadan for centuries, most famously in Cairo. Its light marks the evenings of the month.
Where it worksWarm and generous for a family room or dining room. The three heights give it movement without clutter.
