What you seeA field of six-pointed stars on deep teal, coloured gold, coral and cream in a repeating three-colour order, each with a smaller star inside, joined by small hexagons and woven through by a pale mint strap that runs over and under.

What it meansA six-pointed star, two triangles overlapped, is one of the oldest figures of Islamic geometry. Placed at the centre of every cell of a hexagonal grid, it tiles the plane, and three colours are enough to give neighbouring stars different colours.

Where it worksA lively, colourful plate for a kitchen, a child's room or a hallway.
