Islimi
What you seeA deep blue panel of gold vine scrolls: rows of wave-like stems send a spiral tendril into every bay, each branching from a pair of turquoise and blue split leaves and ending in a terracotta split palmette.
What it meansIslimi is the Persian name for the spiralling vegetal scroll with bifurcated leaves that runs through Islamic ornament in tile, stucco, carpets and manuscripts, and that Europe came to call the arabesque.
Where it worksA rich, endless pattern for a dining room or a bedroom.
