What you seeA chart of glazed zellige pieces in six colours, white, black, lapis, turquoise, honey and terracotta, each cut in the same five exact shapes: eight-pointed star, kite, triangle, square and hexagon.

What it meansZellige makers glaze whole tiles in a small range of colours and then chip them by hand into named shapes that are assembled into mosaics. The limited palette is part of what gives the patterns their harmony.
