Orange Court

No. 3 of 20 · free · 300 dpi

What you seeAn orange court drawn like an architect's axonometric: the paving a tilted grid of pale lines, two cobalt water channels crossing at an eight-point basin, and round orange trees standing up from the plan on their trunks, each with its fruit and its shadow.

What it meansOrange trees planted in a grid, watered by channels cut into the paving, were the pride of the great courts of Seville and Córdoba, and the same plan is still followed in courtyards across the Islamic west.

Where it worksA pattern print with a garden in it, at home in a kitchen or a dining room.
