Scroll Frame
What you seeA long border piece laced into a wooden scroll frame. Finished bands are wound onto the bottom roller as stripes, bands in madder, gold and olive are worked up the cloth, one stops mid-row with its needle parked, and pencilled bands wait above.
What it meansA scroll frame holds cloth between two rollers so a long piece can be kept taut and wound on as the work moves along. It suits the long border panels of the Palestinian embroidered dress.
Where it worksThe frame gives the print a strong edge and a sense of the object behind it. Stripes, trees and diamonds in warm colours fill a large wall with pattern.
